It’s always a weird thing to do… to try and describe yourself in words. Condensing so much into so little, for an unknown audience.

I was born in Cape Town. I’ve lived in a few different cities around the world, worked hard, perhaps not played hard enough, and ended up here, writing this.  I want to adventure. To sail. To explore.

To remind myself that I should stop being so delicate, I like to think of people like Ernest Shackleton’s Endurance crew. What excuse do I really have? My ankle hurts for a few days after I do as long hike? These dudes lived on lichen, in an upturned rowing boat, on a glacier, for a year. I’m made of the same DNA, so let’s eat some lichen!

I’ll try and document my adventures as usefully as possible so that you can copy me outright, or simply be inspired to find your own adventures before you’re too old and decrepit to do so. (That’s me being inspirational by the way)

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too.

All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one’s favour all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now.
